Happy Midseason, Beloveds!
I hope you and yours are staying toasty or cool, depending on your hemispherical proclivity.
I spent *much* of July (or so it felt…) on Jury Duty, an experience I have never taken part in.
Much like the first time I had food poisoning, it felt like I was joining the universal experience in a more intimate way. “Have you ever done it?” I’d ask of my friends, met with completely novel knowledge about them: You did a month-long trial?? For murder???? In college???? It was like a brand new portal into the secret lives of everyone I know.
I didn’t actively hate it as much as I thought I would! The court environment is impeccable with etiquette and decorum in a way I really value.
Plus, pleasing authority is one of my hobbies, and there were tons of opportunities to do that! Whenever the judge said he appreciated my promptness, I was ecstatic.
But the case was disturbing and the trial was intense, so I became even better at decompressing this month. Here’s everything that I enjoyed listening to, reading, seeing, eating, buying, doing, and being in July…
