ALERT ALERT!! There are only two more spaces open for my Wyoming Creativity Retreat in June! If you’ve considered joining me for a week of creating, horseback-riding, and napping next to babbling creeks under the shadow of a golden canyon while a chef makes you dinner over a campfire…now would be the time to act HERE!!
Well hi, Blueberries! How are we?
What shape is 2024 beginning to take? Are we liking what we see? How about this April business? Are we into it? Or would we rather skip ahead? How was March? Did you do your (trigger warning) taxes? Did you find a four-leaf clover? Did you find that thing you’ve been looking for?!?
As for moi, I had myself a good little March!
The highlight was a weekend in Miami. Man, I love that city so much. I must have been an Art Deco tile in a past life.
Even though there was a straight-up hurricane all 48 hours I was there (months before Hurricane Season…farewell, Earth!), my body still did its Miami thing and reellaaaaxxxed the minute I heard “Bienvenidos a Miami!”
As Will Smith once crooned, “The rainstorms ain't nothin' to mess with,” but I was digging the moody atmosphere from my window. I got to witness lightning strike the ocean, which heretofore I’ve only seen in Ivan Aivazovsky paintings.
Oh! And the sun came out an hour before I left so I still got a crucial contemplating-life-on-the-beach photo, for those concerned.
March also had my art show, a couple of my favorite artists released new music, and I accidentally sent a big bouquet of flowers to myself.
Maybe March is That Girl?? I was feeling her!
Also, I have a TON of recommendations. Way more than you could ever want or possibly need. Here goes:
BEING
Spring Coziness
Spring is my favorite season, but after Daylight Savings I start missing the coziness of winter.
I can never be happy, a trait I inherited from my cat!!!
So, I’ve been thinking about how to maintain a cozy lifestyle even when the sky gets brighter.
First, I look to Loré Pemberton, whose illustrations make a tropical evening look downright snuggly. Behold her interpretation of Spring:
Inspired by this springtime version of hygge, I’ve been:
sipping dandelion tea
making whole wheat sourdough pizza with farmers market finds
admiring raincoats with fuzzy lining (I don’t have one, but someone in my barre class does—per the coatrack—and I want it!!)
lighting lavender candles
taking baths with whipped jasmine scrub
remembering that coziness is a lifestyle :) and I can wear soft clothing, make my space homey, and snuggle up in my linen pants any time of year
I’ve been curling up with my beloved Nothing Much Happens book, which is extremely cozy and divided into seasons.
I’ve been loving the short stories about painting during an April rain shower or stepping out into the green garden, all while nibbling a homemade lemon dessert with a sprig of lavender on my bedside table after a heart-opening yoga class.
Oh sorry, I was writing from my idealized self who lives inside my head!!!
But it is a really good book!
BUYING
Rental of the Month
This dress was my favorite thing I rented this month. It was SO comfy!
Sorry for this embarrassing facial expression but I thought my hair looked cool:
Temu
In March I learned that there’s a Chinese version of Amazon (right, exactly, just what the world needs!!!!) and, I regret to say…it’s amazing.
A few examples:
An $8 plate that looks like it was made by a Swedish model who does ceramics in the woods as a hobby:
A $5 mug that would be thirteen thousand dollars and fifty-five cents at Anthropologie:
Sooooo many earrings. (I always lose them so I don’t want to spend a lot!)
This $11 cover-up that I used as a blousy-drapey thing:
And the $7 crochet top I’m wearing in this video about self-care for creatives:
